Be Seen and Heard

Following Spring Break NLCS will be focusing on a series of presentations to keep children and families safe. Victor Pacini, an author, motivational speaker, and survivor of sexual abuse has created an online series of age appropriate modules to share with our family of students and staff to give them a voice to be prepared and know what to do when something unexpected happens and to keep them safe.

At school we have fire drills, lock down drills, tornado drills, to name a few to keep students safe; the focus of these presentations is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Indiana has passed SEA 355 (Senate Enrolled Act 355) which requires schools to implement age appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for K-12. We also have a Special Needs version. (Last day to opt out is March 21, 2019.)

The concepts that will be discussed are:

  • Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
  • Safety rules at home and school
  • Saying “NO”
  • Safe/Unsafe Secrets
  • It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
  • Telling a trusted adult
