BNL PE WAIVER POLICY & APPLICATION
Bedford North Lawrence High School PHYSICAL EDUCATION WAIVER POLICY
The Indiana State Board of Education has provided flexibility to adapt the high school physical education requirements for students who demonstrate proficiency through other means.
Program and Requirements:
-One (1) PE credit will be given for a complete season of:
-Any BNLHS sponsored IHSAA sanctioned sport
-Fall Cheer
-Winter Cheer
-Dance Team
-Marching Band
-Winter Drumline
-Color Guard
-Winter Guard
-The student may earn one (1) credit in PE I for any one of the above activities and one (1) credit in PE II for any one of the above activities. Beginning with the Class of 2025 a student may not duplicate an activity to earn credit for PE I.
-Retroactive credits will not be rewarded. It is the responsibility of the student to get the form completed and then give the coach/director the form for him/her to return.
-A complete season is defined as first practice to final event. The student must remain on the active roster the entire season or the duration of the activity.
-Disciplinary suspensions from the team or activity may result in forfeiture of credit as determined by the coach, director or sponsor.
-At the conclusion of the season or activity, the coach, director or sponsor will validate the completion on the waiver form and submit it to the PE department chair.
-The form must be completed and turned into the counseling office within 2 weeks after the end of the activity. If not turned in, the students will not be included in the waiver process for this school year.
-The student will earn a letter grade of an A once the waiver form has been completed and processed.
-This waiver/course does not count toward passing 5 courses for eligibility
-Both PE I and PE II credits must be earned by the end of the student’s sophomore year. Failure to complete waiver(s) by the end of the student’s sophomore year will result in the student needing to take a traditional PE course for credit. (There may be exceptions due to Covid.)
*Students may obtain a PE Waiver Form from the Counseling Office, Athletic Office, or Music Department at the completion of the athletic/activity season.
