    BNL SOCIAL WORKER INFORMATION

    Parents, teachers, staff, and administration can make a referral for a student to see the school social worker. In addition, students can also refer themselves to see a social worker. Click on the link aboveto fill out a Google Referral form. Please give the social workers as much information as possible so that we can best support each student. 
     
    Meet your BNL Social Workers - Sydney & Kait!!!    Sydney Barnhart and Kait Brummett both have a Masters in Social Work and are licensed social workers by the state of Indiana. Sydney and Kait collaborate with students and families to ensure all needs are met so that students have the opportunity to be successful academically, socially, mentally, and emotionally. 
     
    What we do:  A school social worker's goal is to provide mental, emotional, behavioral, and social support to students and families. Some services that the social workers may provide are listed below:

    SERVICES TO STUDENTS:
    • Assist and assess mental, emotional, social, and behavioral health related issues
    • Provide crisis intervention
    • Work toward creating a positive learning environment by collaborating with students, teachers, and families 
    • Connect students with the appropriate resources that address their needs
    • Empower students to advocate for themselves 
    SERVICES TO FAMILIES:
    • Alleviate family stress to enable the student to function more effectively in the school and the community
    • Assist families in identifying, accessing, and utilizing school and community resources
    • Facilitate support in the student's school adjustment 
    OTHER SERVICES:
    • Educate and provide students, families, teachers, staff, and administration with essential information to better understand the factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) that may affect the students performance and behavior
    • Integrate and utilize the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework to guide services provided
    • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to support student needs
