Second Graders
A Time For Everything
Our
class theme for the year is A Time For
Everything. We have six themes that
revolve around this main idea to connect our curriculum throughout the
year. We are currently working in the
theme A Time to Imagine. The complete list of themes is as
follows: A Time to Imagine, A Time to Discover Nature, A Time to Understand
Neighbors Near and Far, A Time to Explore Animals, A Time to Care for Family,
and A Time to be You-nique(unique).
All
of our Science and Social Studies State Standards will be taught through our Guided Reading. These standards are incorporated into
our themes throughout the year.
Four
Blocks
Our
day is organized using the 4 Blocks framework. Each day we will have Guided Reading,
Writing, Words, and Self-Selected Reading.
All of our reading, spelling, phonics, language, and writing skills are
covered during these 4 Blocks.
Math
Each
day we will have a new Math lesson.
We complete side A together in class, while side B is homework. This should be returned to school the
following morning. Our math also
includes a daily morning meeting where we fill in the date,
discuss the calendar, days of the week, the weather, time, money, etc.
Parents
You
are your child’s most important teacher and role model! You can help them tremendously by
practicing their spelling words at night, checking to see they have correctly
completed their math homework, and reading together
nightly. If you see these as
important, they will, as well!!
