Ms.Cummings's Physical Education Information Page |
Students in grade 6 are in Phys. Ed. for one 9 weeks. Students in grade 7 or 8 have Phys. Ed. for 18 weeks, once each semester. Grading Policy: Students are graded in the following four areas : participation, dress, behaivor, and tests. Fifty points are given each week. Participation Students are given 5 points each day for class participation. Students who do not perform an activity, have an unexcused absence, do not make a serious effort to improve their skills, or do not participate to the best of their ability, will have 5 points deducted. Dress Students are given 5 points each day for appropriately dressing for class participation. Students are required to change clothing. They may wear a T-shirt, sweatshirt, shorts, sweat pants, socks and rubber soled shoes such as basketball, tennis, or running shoes. This pair of shoes must be used for the gym floor only. They arenot to be used for outside activities. Rubber soled boots or street shoes are not allowed on the gym floor. Students who do not dress appropriately for class and do not participate in class will have 10 points taken away. Students who have the appropriate shoes, can choose to play, but will lose 2 points. If we are doing an outside activity, students will not be allowed to participate in street clothes. Behavior Students are given a citizenship grade separate from the academic grade. Each child is expected to show respect, follow the school and classroom rules. There are situations in which behavior could reflect upon the academic grade. Tests Students will be given a written exam over major units of the grading period. Tests will cover the rules, terms , vocabulary words, and strategies of the game played. Note to parents Plese ask your child when they have Phys. Ed. and help them remember shoes and a change of clothes. I give each student one "free day" in the 9 week period. They can use it to sit out one class period. Please do not send a note asking for your child to be excused from class. Let the child negotiate with me. I can usually tell when someone needs to be excused from class. If a child is unable to participate in class, they need a doctors statement stating what they can do. Every one can do some type of activity. We are able to modify any activity to fit specific needs. Since most of you do not run your child to the doctor for upset stomachs etc., I ask you to let your child talk to me. As stated earlier, we are able to work most things out. It is essential that each child participate in all possible activities. If your child has a medical condition, such as diabetes, asthma, or seizures, that might arise during class, I would like a note. A child with rhemetoid arthritis passed through my class very successfully. This child did all she could and dressed out every day. There are days this student could hardly move, but she did keep moving! Your child can too! I think any child can participate for 35 minutes with a cold or upset stomach. Students are required to have a pair of shoes to be used only for the gym floor. These do not have to be new shoes. They can be a pair of old shoes that have been cleaned. They can be the pair that was worn for volleyball or basketball. The shoes that are chosen for wear on the gym floor cannot be worn on any other surface. I really appreciate the cooperation from the parents and the students in the above matter. There has been an awesome, positive response! March 10-20 . A new and final 9 weeks began March 10. Students in all grades will be learning, practicing, and playing Soccer! |
