Principal's Message

Middle School is a wonderful period in a person's life. Students move from the security of having a single teacher to daily exposure to subject area specialists each period. Along the way, students develop skills and attitudes needed to be successful at high school, in careers, and in fulfilling personal dreams and goals.

Responsibility and respect are perhaps the most important traits we can help a child develop during these years. New freedoms and increased social activities mean students learn more time management and interpersonal skills daily. Students make choices based on many forms of information. And students interact with a widening circle of people from many backgrounds. Career possibilities are explored. Everywhere students turn, our abilities to respect everyone and take responsibility for ourselves is tested and strengthened.

At Shawswick Middle School our teachers work in three teams to help students make the transition successfully. We believe the teams of teachers are important elements in the success of each student at school and in the larger community. Our teachers and staff try to mold all our ideas and high expectations. Thus we work together to create a warm, caring, fun place to grow. Parents, community members, and other educators are also part of the team.
