Parkview Primary School

School Year 2011-2012

Stephen Ray, Principal                                                                           Dr. Dennis Turner, Supt.

Dear Parents,

We, the faculty and staff of Parkview Primary School, believe the years spent in the primary grades are of the highest priority in developing each student to his/her highest potential in all areas of learning and development.  Our program depends upon a partnership of students, teachers, parents and community, everyone must work together to assure a strong, unified educational system.

We are excited about a new school year.  Every child at Parkview Primary is special and precious to us.  We want each child to feel he or she belongs and is appreciated here.  We have planned many “welcoming” activities for our first week of school.  Your child will be participating in many activities in the classroom.

Tuesday, Aug. 16th, Pre-school children will have Visitation Day.  Parents will bring their children in the morning class from 9:00-9:30 and the afternoon class will meet from 1:00-1:30.

Enrollment Information

The emergency information forms must be filled out and returned to school immediately.  In case of an early dismissal due to weather conditions or other emergencies, we must know where your child will be going and with whom they are going.  If this changes during the school year, please notify the office as soon as possible.

The school needs to be informed of any health problems or other situations that could affect your child at school.  All information will be kept in strict confidence.  We need to know to help your child as best we can.

NEW SAFETY PROCEDURES

If it becomes necessary to contact the child at any time during the school day, this contact must be made through the school office. All visitors, including parents, must report to the office before going to the any area of the school.  Parents and visitors will sign in at the office as they enter the school.

For safety and security of our students, all doors to the building locked at 8:30 am. All visitors are asked to enter the building through the front doors on Brian Lane Way. Visitors needing to enter the building via the handicapped accessible doors can do so at door number 2 on the south side of the building. Once visitors are in the building they will have to report to the school office. Security doors will be unlocked at this time.  Safety and security of our school is a priority at all times.

Please make every effort to have your child here by 8:10 am.  Your child will need to bring a note to the teacher each time they will be changing their normal departure from school.  Because of the young age of our children, we must have information from the parent if plans are going to change.  Please do not call the office daily to make changes.  This will help minimize classroom interruptions.

If you bring you child to school, pull over to the curb on Brian Lane Way to let your child out of the car.  Do not let your child out in the middle of the street!  We have approximately 100 children being driven to school and getting out of the car at one time.  Please be patient, observant and strict vigilance to insure the safety of the children.  Please do not bring your child to school early, nor have your child walk early.  Students in the Primary building are not allowed to ride their bicycles to and from school.

Report Cards

Your child’s teacher will send you a report card four times during the school year.  A mid-term progress report will also be sent home four times a year.  This is a form of communication between the home and school, and should not be regarded as an end product.  Your child’s teacher takes all aspects of ability, effort, and cooperation when determining a grade.  A school newsletter from the Principal will be sent home around the first day of every month.  Teachers send home a weekly newsletter.  Please read your newsletters in order to stay informed.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Conferences are planned at the end of the first 9 weeks of school, October 18th for all students.  This gives each parent the opportunity to come to school and discuss your child’s progress with the teacher.  Parents may ask for a conference at any time and are always welcome to visit your child’s classroom.  Please report to the office first.  You are urged to contact the school if you have a concern about your child.

Student Planners

Your child will receive a Student Planner book that has homework and information from the teacher.  This is an excellent resource for communication.  Please look at your child’s agenda book each time that it is brought home.  Parents will need to sign that you have read the Technology Handbook in your child’s agenda book.  Replacement cost for the book is $5.00 Replacement homework folders cost is $1.00. On page 29 of the Student Planner is a Receipt of the Handbook form that must be signed and returned to the teacher. Your child cannot work in the computer lab unless you have signed the receipt of the handbook.

School to Home Communication Folder

In addition to the agenda book, students will also be required to have a folder that will go to and from home and school.  This folder will contain items that improve school-home communications.  The folder is free to students, however, if a new folder is needed, the student will be charged $1.00 for replacement.

Open House will be Tuesday, August 16 from 5:30-7:00 PM.

October 18th is parent-teacher conference evening; students will not be dismissed early on this day.
