Welding and cutting is a two-year program designed to train graduates
for full time employment at entry level upon satisfactory completion.
Welders permanently join metal parts by applying heat or pressure to
the metal pieces to be joined, melting the parts and fusing them to
form a permanent bond. The training is oriented to the metal required,
and is based on national qualification standards and specifications by
the AWS (American Welding Society). The areas of instruction are
oxy-fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, welding ferrous and nonferrous metals, reading welding symbols, blueprints, and metal fabrication. Duties range from assisting in the fabrication of new equipment for industry and private sector to repairing old equipment. The work setting might be a small shop or a major industry. This program is affiliated with VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
