700 PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1
Grade Level: 9 Term: All Year (2 Credits)
P.E. 1 is a course designed to develop skills and knowledge, social inter-action and safety and health habits through participation in various team and individual development activities. A swimming course is required. This class is so structured that each student will be swimming at their level of ability. Some of the activities you will participate in are: volleyball, tumbling, basketball, intro. to weight-lifting, square dance, flag football, aerobic dance, floor hockey, soccer, archery, tennis and track & field.
704 PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2
Grade Level: 10-12 Term: All Year (2 Credits)
Prerequisite: P.E. 1
This course is designed to develop individual skills through participation in specialized sports activities with emphasis on leisure time activities. You will participate in the following activities: weight-lifting, basketball, flag football, mushball, softball, badminton, archery, and tennis. Students may enroll for one semester only.
705 ADVANCED FITNESS AND CONDITIONING
Grade Level: 10-12 Term: All Year (2 Credits)
This course involves a physically demanding program of weight training and fitness activities designed to enhance speed, agility, flexibility, jumping, and coordination designed for student athletes. The academic portion of this course provides the students with an advanced understanding of biomechanics, substance abuse, nutrition, and fitness terminology. Students are given strength and fitness test periodically. Each semester that this course is taken new students performance goals are developed. Students may enroll for one semester only.
707 ADVANCED P.E. STRENGTH TRAINING
Grade level: 10-12 Term: All Year (2 Credits)
Prerequisite: PE 1
A Co-educational Physical Education course open to all students in grades 10, 11, 12. This course will incorporate the latest in strength training techniques and theories with the finest equipment available. The course will be geared toward the prevention of injury, improving performance potential and improving personal appearance. Students may enroll for one semester only.
710 ADVANCED P.E.-AEROBICS
Grade Level: 10-12 Term: All Year (2 Credits)
Prerequisite: P.E. 1
Aerobics Plus is a complete program of fitness exercise choreographed to music. This class incorporates stretching, aerobics, floor work and spot reduction exercises. Benefits include increased flexibility, cardiovascular health and general well-being. Students may enroll for one semester only.
712 LIFEGUARD TRAINING
Grade Level: 10-12 Term: One Semester(1 credit)
Prerequisite: PE 1
Provides participants with the knowledge, skills and practice needed to become well-trained and effective lifeguards at pools. In addition to learning preventive life guarding and facility safety, participants practice rescue approaches, assists, tows and carries. Emergency care for spinal injury in the water is emphasized. The course includes required units in first aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Successful completion of requirements will result in certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard for 3 years.
720 HEALTH EDUCATION
Grade Level: 10 Term: One Semester (1 credit)
High school health education provides the basis for continued methods of developing knowledge, concepts, skills, behaviors and attitudes related to student health and well-being. This course includes the major content areas in a planned, sequential, comprehensive health education curriculum as expressed in the Indiana Health Education Standards Guide: (1) Growth and Development; (2) Mental and Emotional Health; (3) Community and Environmental Health; (4) Nutrition; (5) Family Life; (6) Consumer Health; (7) Personal Health; (8) Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs; (9) Intentional and Unintentional Injury and (10) Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
