The
Foundations
class is in
i ts
third year at Bedford Middle
School. The class was introduced in keeping
with NLCS policy of providing remediation services for
students who have failed to meet the required standards during
past ISTEP + testing. With ISTEP testing scheduled in
September I have started addressing the academic area with the
students who failed to meet the state standard in Math or
Language Arts.
I am looking forward to
working with each of the students this 2007 - 2008 school
year. The software program I will be using for
their assessment is called "The Advance Learning
System". The student will be tested in the subject they
failed to pass and the results of this test will determine the
area of weakness they need help in. A clipboard with
different lesson plans to help enhance and improve the
students learning abilities and skills will be assigned;
several pencil and paper activities will be assigned,
educational software programs on the web will be used to
increase student knowledge and understanding, and periodically
I will re-test the student to evaluate signs of improvement.
Individualization along with group projects will be the
foundation for this class. Learning can be fun and
students enjoy the computers. My objective is to use
technology to create a classroom environment that is enjoyable
and educational.
This class is not an
elective. In compliance with the "No
Child Left behind Act", Bedford Middle School is
working to improve student success in Reading and Math
Literacy.
I believe that by all of us working
together we can make this a very successful school year for
your child. I consider it of prime importance that you
be an active part of your their education. You are
invited to contact me through my BMS Email Account,
or call Bedford Middle School at 812-279-9781 Monday
through Friday between the hours of 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. You
may also visit the classroom and see for yourself, how your
child is progressing. Each of these kids is very
important to me so, any concerns or questions regarding their
progress (from their legal guardian) is most certainly
welcomed.
